You may be (but are most probably not) wondering what's going on with my life. Particularly what I am doing in Canada and what's going on with F. So I'll tell you the whole story. I am Canadian. And also Chilean. I have dual citizenship. So there, that's why I'm in Canada. My parents are Chilean. I lived in Canada from ages zero to seven, then in Chile from ages seven to twenty-three and now in Canada again from ages twenty-three to indefinite. F. is my girlfriend. The short version is that she has been my girlfriend since July 2003. It has always been my plan to return to Canada some day. But my priority was F. So basically I had to be where F. was because that's how love works. But one day F. said 'let's go to Canada.' So we began the process. The process is called sponsorship. I sponsor her to immigrate to Canada. We sent the papers on August 10th. Processing times are anywhere between three and eight months. Well! The purpose of this entry is to tell you guys that F. received her permanent resident visa today! TODAY! October 6th! That's not even three months! She already has her airplane ticket and will be here the 19th! Man! This is so awesome! Up until now I felt like my life was in a halt. Like whatever happened didn't really have much meaning. Any joy was incomplete because I couldn't share it with F. She's part of who I am now. I cannot sufficiently stress just how amazingly awesome this is. I was thinking that MAYBE her papers would be ready by Christmas. There was even the very slight possibility that she wouldn't even get approved. But it's ready! The wait is over! I am SO happy! So: October 6th, she got her papers October 18th, she will enter Canada and officially become a permanent resident These dates are important.
I love you. |

Hello! About a month ago, my boss at the restaurant asked me if I could play guitar at this event he was putting together. The restaurant has five separate areas or rooms and I would have to play a couple of songs in one room and then a couple in another room and etc. for six hours. I said yes because he didn't really need someone to play, he just knew that I played guitar and needed money and wanted to give me a chance. Saying no would have been dumb and ungrateful. Why would I have said no? Because it's been like five years since I last played in front of people who were not in my living room and also happened to be my friends. And all those times when I have played in front of people, it's been with a band, which is a much safer situation. So I was really nervous. And I've always been very insecure about my "talents." (See, I couldn't help using quotation marks, like I really don't have any talent.) Also, I didn't know what to play. I've barely listened to any music lately and when I pick up my guitar it's mainly to struggle with my own songs which would not fit the context at all anyway. Well, the event was yesterday (Sunday), and it went well! People even danced! (like two people and for like a minute, but still). I got a five dollar tip from a lady who said I "really deserved it!" I learned the last song on my set on Sunday morning! I even bought a kazoo! Which was a hit! My final list (and the way I chose to play each song) was:
'Hey hey' by Big Bill Broonzy (solo guitar) 'I want to do something for you' by Mance Lipscomb (guitar & voice) 'Untrue blues' by Blind Boy Fuller (solo guitar) 'When somebody thinks you're wonderful' by Harry M. Woods (sung by Fats Waller) (guitar & kazoo/really fast solo guitar version) '(Up a) Lazy river' by Hoagy Carmichael (guitar & kazoo/really fast solo guitar version) 'It don't mean a thing (if it ain't got that swing)' by Duke Ellington (simplified and fast guitar & kazoo version) 'I ain't got nobody' by Spencer Williams (as played by the Mills Brothers) (guitar & kazoo/really fast solo guitar version) 'Quién es la que viene allí' by Roberto Parra (guitar & kazoo) 'Jealous guy' by John Lennon (guitar & voice) 'Love' by John Lennon (guitar & voice) 'Blackbird' by The Beatles (guitar & voice) 'Thirteen' by Big Star (as played by Elliott Smith) (guitar & voice) 'Moonshiner' (traditional; as played by Bob Dylan) (guitar & voice)
Well, I never played 'Love', 'Thirteen' or 'Moonshiner' because they didn't really fit the context and I only played 'Jealous guy' and 'Blackbird' once because I realized they were way too soft and were not working at all. So I was left with the blues and jazz songs. When I didn't feel like playing the kazoo (which I bought on Saturday because I realized I wasn't going to learn all the lyrics and I can't whistle), I'd play super fast solo guitar versions of the jazz songs which was pretty fun. After about two hours my right hand was pretty fucked up. I couldn't feel my thumb and my index was hurting pretty bad, so I had to use a pick. And eliminate 'Hey hey' from the list which was the only song I couldn't manage to adapt to pick playing (steady bass + a lot of melody on the treble = pretty much impossible for pick). So it went well. I played for like four or five hours in total which I had never done before and now my both hands are killing me. But I made 90 bucks and everyone thought I did great, so that's cool. Yay, an actual entry! |

| This entry is pretty dumb and unnecessary |
[Sep. 14th, 2009|09:18 pm] |
Last year I wrote this. I'm not skipping this year, although I didn't post it the 13th as I should have. I already know how to write it (it'll be different). So expect that in a couple of days. Uhm... I guess that's it. This entry is pretty dumb and unnecessary. |

I just wanted to post this amazing video before I forget. As usual, real entry soon. Really, though, there are some things I want to write about which may or may not include some of the following: - electricity
- horses
- if I can lift one pound and adding one more pound is practically nothing so I can also lift two pounds and adding one more pound is practically nothing so I can also lift three pounds, etc. ad infinitum, does that mean that I am the world's weight-lifting champion? If so, how should I celebrate?

Ugh, I don't know what to write about. I guess I should tell you guys that I have a job. I'm washing dishes at a restaurant. It's okay. My co-workers are nice. I get paid eight dollars an hour (read: minimum wage) which is alright I guess. I work Fridays and Saturdays and sometimes, if they're too busy, they'll call me during the week. Later on, around mid-September, when they're busy all the time, those occasional week shifts could become permanent. In the meantime I still need another job if I want to save some money. Which I do. Uhm, what else. I miss F. every day. She'll be here soon, though. Man, I miss her... Oh, Clement is good. He goes out a lot and sleeps a lot and plays with Baruch. He does this little ridiculous battle cry just before he leaps on him. It's hilarious. Yesterday I made ice and, later during the day, when I wanted to use it, I noticed one of the cubes had a little spike, like an inverted icicle, a little longer than the height of the cube. How the hell did that happen? I have no idea. The end. |

I used to watch Moonwalker a lot when I was like six or seven. I remember maybe a year ago I wanted to download it and I don't know why I didn't. I really like the dance-off scence. With the giant rabbit. Also when I was seven someone gave my mom a copy of Dangerous for Christmas and I got kind of mad because I wanted it. My gift from that person (whom I do not remember) was Nevermind by Nirvana, but it was a cassette (Dangerous was a CD) and there was a naked baby on the cover so it didn't interest me much. About a year later I listened to that tape and I loved it (if I were a stupid person, I would have written "and the rest is history"), but that's not what this entry is about. I'm not sure what it's about actually. The thing is, Michael jackson made truly amazing music and I enjoyed it a lot. I don't know what was wrong with him, but there was sure something and it's a shame. Yesterday I tried to dance like him and failed miserably. I knew I would though because I can't dance at all. Anyway, RIP Michael Jackson. You were a really cool guy it seems. |
